# The levels ladder

Every chord type, in every inversion, on white keys, black keys and all twelve — laid out as one grid you clear a cell at a time.

## One grid for the whole climb

The [Levels](https://pianokitty.com/levels) page lays out the chords as a ladder. Each row is a chord type, from major triads at the top to thirteenth chords at the bottom, in order of difficulty. The columns split each type by inversion — root position, first, second and, for four-note chords, third — and each inversion into three sets of roots.

Every cell has a short label. The number is the chord type, the letter the inversion (A is root position, B, C and D the inversions), and the marks the roots: none for white keys, + for black keys, ++ for all twelve. So 13A is a major triad in root position on white keys, and 13C++ is its second inversion from every key.

## Clear a cell at 99%

A cell counts as cleared when you play its exercise with at least 99% accuracy. Until then, a ring around it fills up to your best result so far, so you can see which levels are nearly there. Click a cell to see its full name, when you cleared it or how far you got, and **Ok, start** to practice it.

The tabs above the grid keep separate ladders for the **Right hand**, the **Left hand** and **Both hands**; **Any** counts whichever you use. Tick **Show intervals** to add the lower rungs: single notes and the twelve intervals, for when the triads are still ahead.

> Not sure where to start? The [placement test](https://pianokitty.com/features/find-your-level) finds your level in a few minutes and puts you on the right rung. Clearing a cell also counts toward your [badges](https://pianokitty.com/features/badges).
