# Practice that plays like a game

Hearts you can lose, levels to clear and an accuracy score to beat. Turn on reward images and a right answer can earn you a cat photo.

## Hearts

A row of hearts sits at the top of the practice screen. You earn hearts by playing well and lose them when you miss. When they run out, the run ends, so a wrong note has a cost and nobody has to nag you about it.

## Levels and the board at the end

Every drill has a place on the level ladder, and the badge in the corner shows which level you are on. When a run ends, whether you cleared it or ran out of hearts, a board fills the screen with the result, your score and a few cards suggesting what to do next.

The cards offer the next step on your path, a harder variant, the same shape in another key, or the same exercise at a slower tempo.

## The numbers

The counters show correct answers, total answers, the current streak and accuracy, plus loops for drills that go through a full chart. They update as you play, and at the end the board turns them into a score.

> The numbers also carry over between sessions. [Chord stats](https://pianokitty.com/chord-stats) keep a rolling record of which chords you miss and which you have mastered, and the drill can ask for the weak ones more often.

## Cats

Turn on reward images and a correct answer earns a cat photo with a caption. It is optional and a bit silly, and younger children in particular enjoy it.

## And confetti

A correct answer sets off a short burst of confetti, brief enough not to get in the way. It respects the system's reduced-motion setting, and you can turn it off completely.

## Coins and badges

Practice also earns coins, which last beyond a single run. You get one for each day you practice, one more for reaching your daily goal and one for completing an exercise, and you lose one for each day you miss. You spend them on pets in the shop.

Badges mark the exercises you have completed with at least 99% accuracy, and they show up on your dashboard.
